There have been some interesting developments on the fine wine investment market.
There were some new classification upgrades in the Saint Emillion Classification – Chateau Pavie and Chateau Angelus have been promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classe status, we have recommended Chateau Angelus in a number of vintages and the price has been rising since the news came out.
The London and Vintners exchange was up again for the finish of September, October is holding up well, prices since August have been slowly rising. The market should be in full swing by December if it continues positively like this.
Rabobank who are the leading agricultural bank and leaders in agricultural finance have issued a press release on the global wine market. They said there were a series of large global wine harvests from 2004 to 2006 then the global recession took over in 2008 which affected the wine market. Prices have declined in the last year and Rabobank suggest this is the reason. However the good news is that since these bumper harvests there was a sharp decline in production which has resulted in global inventories of commercial wine at their lowest point in ten years. Because of the tighter supply situation this could increase prices.
