Last 12 months on various Latour Vintages
As promised this is part of a series that Im sending you on First growths and their performance over the past 12 months. This one is about Chateau Latour.
I have selected vintages going back to 1990 and randomly selected some charts for you to see how they performed over the course of a year.
Latour was a good investment in 2015 in some vintages but slow in others, the Vintage 2005 for example, performed well with a return of 9.3% as did many of the other 2005 vintages last year. However some vintages again we see the young vintages such as 2010 finished with a negative result of 8.3%. Latour is a first growth hiding in the background since the Chateau stopped offering their wines each year in the en primeur campaigns when all the other wines in Bordeaux release their newest vintage. Advising they will not release a vintage until it is 10 years old. I did think that this would be detrimental to Latour but given there has been some good growth on a number of vintages, perhaps the result will be true in the end for those who are willing to wait until 2020. If they manage to fetch high prices then all the older vintages will undoubtedly follow. Possibly a long term investment for those who have the staying power and capital to hold on for another 5-6 years with no intention to sell.
