Bordeaux En Primeur Update July 2010
Fair to say that this year will be the year Bordeaux En Primeur changes forever?
Even in a time of economic hardship these prices have been sustained with decent sales. If that is the case, back vintages are going to see a marked increase in value as the price of those vintages is not as big as the value implies…
Will it not be difficult for chateau owners to scale back their expectations now with regards to their sale prices? I think its certainly cemented what has been obvious for some years: that Bordeaux is very definitely a two-tier market with its own premier league. The top dozen properties – now bona fide international luxury brands, subject to the same economic laws as luxury watches, perfumes, handbags, shoes, cars – will now pull away fast from the pack.
What will be interesting over the coming years will be how the ‘wannabe’ first growths – La Mission, Palmer, LeovilleLC, Cos, Ducru – will jockey for position in the new ‘first division’
